Galamsey: NDC can’t absolve itself of blame – Ahiagbah

-

The Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of being complicit in the galamsey crisis.

According to him, the NDC rode on galamsey for political gains in the run-up to the 2020 election by making promises that encouraged the illegal miners.

These actions, he noted have contributed to the current challenges Ghana finds itself in concerning the galamsey fight.

“I think that the NDC cannot absolve itself of responsibility of where we are. You heard in 2020 when we were doing the election, they were leveraging galamsey as a means to winning the election. They were peddling galamsey to people telling them to vote for us when we come we will liberate you to do it,” he stated in an interview on Accra-based Channel One TV.

He asserted that, the situation would have been worse if the NDC won the election as they would have fulfilled promises made to illegal miners.

Calling for decisive measures to deal with the menace, Mr. Ahiagba called for a collaborative effort between the government and relevant stakeholders.
