Galamsey: GMA defends withdrawal from Organised Labour’s October 10 strike

-

The Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has defended its decision to withdraw from the intended nationwide strike by Organised Labour over the government’s failure to fight illegal mining.

The GMA pulled out of the strike, citing humanitarian reasons.

Speaking at the 66th Annual Conference of the Ghana Medical Association, the President of the Association, Dr. Frank Serebour, said they did what was right.

“The decision by the GMA not to join the Organised Labour strike, or the intended strike on the 10th of October 2024, was a majority decision by the council of the GMA. You hear people say, ‘Oh, it was not a council decision.’ The decision was taken on the 3rd of October 2024.

“Two days after the decision was taken, before members could be informed, there was a leak from the council platform to the media.

“This planted the virus of chaos and generated various forms of discussion, some seriously uncomplimentary.”
