GACL shuts down McDan Aviation Private Jet Terminal over $3 Million debt

-

The management of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has shut down the McDan Aviation Private Jet Terminal due to an outstanding debt exceeding $3 million.

The debt, which includes unpaid land leases, rentals, and terminal charges accumulated over time, remained unsettled despite a deadline set for Christmas to clear the arrears.

This is the second time McDan Aviation has faced closure. In February 2022, GACL indefinitely barred the company from operating its private jet services at Terminal 1 of Kotoka International Airport (KIA) due to operational breaches.

In a letter dated January 31, 2022, GACL directed McDan Aviation to cease operations for failing to comply with terms and conditions for using Terminal 1 as a private jet facility.

Signed by Yaw Kwakwa, Managing Director of GACL, the letter also instructed McDan Aviation to hand over the terminal keys for a joint inventory.

The suspension came shortly after McDan Aviation launched its private jet terminal on January 28, 2022, an event boycotted by key aviation officials, including Transport Minister Kwaku Ofori Asiamah and GACL representatives, who raised concerns about operational irregularities.

Despite previous warnings and the earlier suspension, McDan Aviation’s failure to settle its debts has prompted the latest closure of the terminal, underscoring ongoing challenges between the company and GACL.
