With the Volta Regional Council of State elections approaching, political tensions are mounting as allegations surface against one of the leading aspirants, Mr. Gabriel Adovoe Kwablah Kwamigah.
A recent report by Ghanaian Voice Online News claimed that Mr. Kwamigah was embroiled in a $7.05 million gold fraud scandal, but his campaign team has come out forcefully to reject these allegations, calling them a calculated attempt to derail his candidacy and tarnish his reputation.
A Strategic Attack?
In a strongly worded rejoinder issued on February 2, 2025, and signed by Edwin Kwashie Gawugah, the campaign manager, the team described the allegations as a desperate smear campaign aimed at discrediting Mr. Kwamigah’s credibility and business integrity.
“Our candidate has never been involved in any fraudulent activity. The claims made in the publication are completely unsubstantiated, misleading, and deliberately crafted to damage the hard-earned reputation of a distinguished businessman and leader,” the statement emphasized.
The campaign team believes the timing of the publication raises serious questions. Coming just as the Council of State elections draw near, they argue that this is no coincidence but a deliberate ploy to sow doubt in the minds of voters.
Kwamigah’s Track Record Speaks for Itself
Far from being a fraudster, the campaign team asserts that Mr. Kwamigah is a respected entrepreneur who has played a significant role in Ghana’s gold trade sector. His business dealings, they stress, have always adhered to national and international trade regulations.
“Mr. Kwamigah has built his business empire through legitimate commercial transactions, holding valid licenses and permits issued by Ghana’s regulatory bodies. His track record speaks for itself—integrity, transparency, and good faith in all his dealings,” the statement read.
They insist that his success in the gold sector has been the result of hard work and ethical business practices, not fraudulent activities.
Political Undercurrents at Play?
With the Council of State elections being a crucial platform for regional representation, some political analysts believe that false allegations could be a tool used by opponents to weaken strong candidates. The campaign team, without pointing fingers, hinted at the possibility of political sabotage aimed at shifting focus away from Mr. Kwamigah’s vision and policies for the Volta Region.
“This election should be about competence, ideas, and the future of the Volta Region—not personal attacks and unverified accusations. We encourage all contenders to engage in a clean campaign, focusing on what they can offer the people,” the team urged.
Legal Action on the Table
The campaign team has not ruled out legal action against individuals or media houses that continue to spread defamatory content about Mr. Kwamigah.
“We reserve all legal rights to take action against any party that seeks to defame or misrepresent Mr. Kwamigah’s reputation. Truth and integrity must always prevail over political propaganda,” the statement warned.
What This Means for the Election
As Voltarians prepare to select their representative for the Council of State, this controversy has added a new layer of intrigue to the race. While opponents may attempt to cast doubt on Mr. Kwamigah’s candidacy, his team remains confident that his integrity and track record will speak louder than any smear campaign.
With this dramatic turn of events, the big question remains: Will Voltarians see through the allegations as mere political tactics, or will this controversy impact Kwamigah’s chances in the election?
