Renowned business magnate and philanthropist, Gabriel Kwamigah Tanko Kwabla Atokple, has officially filed his nomination to contest for the Volta Region’s seat on the Council of State.
His bid signals a bold push for greater youth representation in governance, challenging the perception that the Council of State is reserved solely for the elderly.
Atokple, the founder and CEO of the Tanko Foundation, is known for spearheading numerous developmental and humanitarian projects across the Volta Region.
His vision is clear: to leverage his experience in business, public-private partnerships, and community development to advise the president on policies that will accelerate progress in the region.
Breaking Barriers for a New Generation of Leaders
Addressing the media after submitting his nomination, Atokple made a passionate appeal for youth involvement in key decision-making roles. He argued that Ghana’s development requires fresh perspectives, innovative solutions, and dynamic leadership—qualities that young professionals can provide.
“For too long, leadership at certain levels has been dominated by the elderly. While experience is valuable, we cannot ignore the contributions young people can make in governance. We must move beyond outdated mindsets and embrace competence, vision, and efficiency regardless of age,” he stated.
He highlighted the importance of fostering strong partnerships between the government and the private sector to drive economic growth. According to him, the Volta Region has immense potential in tourism, agriculture, education, and business, and it requires leaders who can champion strategic investments to unlock these opportunities.
A Vision for a Stronger Volta Region
Atokple dismissed criticisms that the Council of State is not relevant, emphasizing its crucial role in shaping national policies. He assured delegates that his leadership would prioritize development, positioning the Volta Region as a key economic player in Ghana.
“The Council of State must not be seen as a retirement ground but as a platform for impactful advisory roles. My mission is to ensure that our region attracts investment, creates jobs, and thrives in sectors such as education, health, and agriculture. I am committed to making the Volta Region a model of sustainable development,” he added.
His call to action was directed at delegates, urging them to vote massively for him to usher in a new era of progress.
As the race for the Volta Region’s Council of State seat heats up, Atokple’s candidacy presents a compelling choice—one that blends experience, innovation, and a strong commitment to regional development. Whether delegates will embrace his vision remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: his bid has reignited conversations about youth leadership and the future of governance in Ghana.
