On Tuesday, September 17, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), held a nationwide protest against the Electoral Commission.
The NDC is demanding an audit of the provisional voter’s register for the December 2024 election, alleging that the register contains numerous irregularities that could undermine a free and fair election.
The Electoral Commission (EC), however, disagrees with these allegations.
To increase pressure on the Commission, the NDC organized demonstrations across all 16 regions, calling for an independent forensic audit.
In their petition, the party stated, “The irregularities in the Provisional Voters Register (PVR) are not minor oversights or clerical errors; they indicate a deliberate manipulation of the voter database.”
They urged the Commission to take swift action to safeguard Ghana’s democratic process and national stability.
According to the NDC, they have identified more than 243,000 unauthorized voter transfers.
These transfers, allegedly made without the knowledge or consent of the affected voters, prompt significant questions about who approved them and the possible involvement of EC officials in facilitating these changes.
