The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced Frimpong Manso as the new head coach of the Black Starlets.
Manso, who also serves as the head coach of Bibiani GoldStars, takes over from Laryea Kingston, who departed during the qualifiers for the Africa U17 Cup of Nations.
The experienced coach has been tasked with building a team capable of securing qualification for the next tournament, following Kingston’s squad’s failure to progress this year.
This appointment marks a return to familiar territory for Manso, who previously served as head coach of the Black Starlets from 2009 to 2010. He has also worked as an assistant coach for both the Starlets and the Black Meteors, Ghana’s U23 national team.
At the club level, Manso has an impressive resume, having managed Stade d’Abidjan in Ivory Coast, as well as Ghanaian sides Asante Kotoko, Karela United, B.A. United, Kessben FC (now Medeama SC), and Nkoranza Warriors.
The Black Starlets, two-time African champions and Ghana’s first national team to win the FIFA World Cup, have struggled in recent years, failing to qualify for the Africa U17 Championship since finishing as runners-up in 2017.
Manso’s experience and leadership will be crucial as he takes on the challenge of reviving the fortunes of the team.
