Franklin Cudjoe’s advice to NDC on 24-hour economy [Listen]

The President of policy think tank, IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe has urged the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to focus on a specific sector in the implementation of its proposed 24-hour economy.

In an interview on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem Monday, Mr Cudjoe said he is beginning to understand what the NDC’s proposed policy means after careful analysis.

“One of the difficulties at IMANI is trying to talk the 24-hour economy because
it’s aspirational, it’s a policy. You can’t actually really attack a policy, more or less, criticise it because it’s like a broader anchor.

“But eventually, we decided to take a keen interest, myself, Bright and a few others and  we are beginning to understand what the NDC really means,” he said.

The plan, designed to energize businesses that operate around the clock, includes a series of strategic initiatives to drive demand for goods and services in this sector if NDC is elected on December 7.

Speaking at the manifesto launch, the flagbearer, John Mahama highlighted that the package would be underpinned by significant investments in infrastructure, security, and energy.

However, Mr Cudjoe has asserted it may not be feasible for all segments of the economy, hence the need for it to target a specific sector.

“But I mean, I would advise that they may have to take a segment of the economy. It is not every aspect of the economy that needs 24 hours. They may just have to extend hours and if they did that, it will be wonderful,” he admonished.

He stressed that the policy should not be just a slogan but the NDC should be intentional about it, adding it must come with security, lighting which are really important.
