Four individuals, including three Ghanaians and a Chinese national, have been detained by the Police for tampering and installing Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) meters.
Wisdom Sewlorm, an agent, received the ECG meters for installation.
However, his employee, Ernest Afatsawu, tampered with the meters and sold them to a Chinese plastic manufacturing firm for GH₵1200.
The manager of the Chinese firm, Rulian Shan, along with his Sales Manager, Ali Yakubu, were apprehended on Friday, August 2.
Ernest and Wisdom are currently under investigation after being summoned.
The Director responsible for Investigation, Prosecution, and Security, Paul Abariga stated that the four individuals will be brought to court on Wednesday.
Additionally, the contract with the ECG contractor will be terminated.
“There are meters being installed in many parts of our operational area, and some investigations reported to this directorate revealed that some of the meters installed were tampered with before installation. We undertook investigations and confirmed that the intel and reports were accurate.
“Based on that, we arrested these four individuals. They had a meter meant for residential use, but it was being used in a factory to manufacture plastic bowls at Oblogo near Weija. We aim to complete our investigation and present them in court tomorrow,” he stated.
