Former Member of Parliament for Ablekuma Central, Ebenezer Gilbert Nii Narh Nartey, has criticized Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng, describing him as a “social media prosecutor” rather than someone fulfilling his core mandate.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Mr. Nartey accused the Special Prosecutor of focusing more on social media engagements than tackling corruption.
His remarks follow the OSP’s recent ultimatum to former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, warning that he would be declared wanted again if he failed to appear for questioning on June 2, 2025.
The OSP insists that Ofori-Atta’s appearance is “mandatorily required,” but the former minister has filed a lawsuit at the Accra High Court, arguing that the declaration was unlawful and seeking compensation.
Mr. Nartey questioned the Special Prosecutor’s authority, stating, “What powers does he have to declare someone wanted? What has he done since the OSP was established? Of what benefit is he to Ghanaians? He has achieved nothing and is wasting taxpayers’ money. His mandate is to fight corruption, but he has done nothing since assuming office. He’s just a social media OSP, using his position for browsing.”
Defending Ofori-Atta, Nartey claimed the former minister informed the then-Chief of Staff of his departure for personal reasons and had no obligation to report to the new administration.
He also accused the OSP of unfairly targeting Ofori-Atta, adding, “If Mahama wants to replace the OSP, he will. Kissi Agyebeng shouldn’t think these actions will secure his job.”
