Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kurt Okraku, believes his administration has made significant progress in the development of football in the country.

Okraku, who was first elected in 2019 and re-elected in October 2023, expressed his satisfaction with the progress made during his tenure.

Speaking on Asempa FM, Mr Okraku reflected on the state of Ghanaian football before his administration took over.

He noted that the country’s national teams had lost their competitiveness and passion, but that his team has worked to restore this.

Under his leadership, Ghana has made a return to the FIFA World Cup, with the Black Stars competing in the 2022 edition.

Okraku also highlighted the success of Ghana’s youth national teams, including the U-20 team’s three titles under his tenure.

“The Ghanaian game was on the low before 2019. Fast forward to 2019, 2020 and now I think that we’ve made big inroads bringing all our competition back, bringing the desire and the passion of the people back,” he said.

“All our national teams are now competitive. We’ve gone ahead also to introduce more youth competitions and more youth national teams. If you remember, we were back at the World Cup in Qatar after we lost out in 2018.”

He praised the progress of the Black Queens, Ghana’s female national team, which has returned to the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations after a four-year absence.

“Our Black Queens, the female national team, are back in AFCON after being away. Our youth national teams are also on the rise again. All our domestic competitions are back on track and timely. So the outlook looks very good.”

Mr Okraku also vowed to continue working to improve the sport in Ghana and achieve greater success for the country’s national teams.
