The country is likely to be hit by hunger if the torrential rains in the three Northern Region do not end anytime soon.
About eighty percent (80%) of farms in the three Northern Regions have been submerged as a result of torrential rainfall coupled with the spillage of Burkina Faso based Bagre Dam.
12,857 acres of farmlands in the Northern region according to Northern Regional Co-Ordinating Councilor’s report have been submerged by flood.

Twelve (12) deaths have so far been recorded in the Northern Region after the rainstorm.
Director General Of the Ghana National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) Eric Nana Agyemang-Prempeh speaking at a meeting held with some International Humanitarian Organizations said government will consider declaring a State Of Emergency if the rains persist.
17,526 people as at 19th September 2018 in 17 out of the 28 Metropolitan, Municipal and districts in the Region as are displaced.

The reports state that 1,716 houses have collapsed in 304 communities.
International bodies including United Nations Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), World Food Program(WFP) among others have earlier proposed declaration of State of Emergency after the heavy flood that hit many communities in Northern, Upper East and Upper West Regions.
These international donor bodies in the meeting are still pushing for the State of Emergency declaration to draw the attention of donor partners to support the victims.
