Flight saga: Kwakye-Ofosu isn’t a liar, he only relayed what was given to him – Oppong Nkrumah

Former Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has defended Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, over his handling of the suspicious flight saga allegedly linked to illicit drug trafficking and money laundering.

Speaking on JoyPrime’s Prime Morning Show on Wednesday, April 9, Oppong Nkrumah stated that Kwakye-Ofosu did not deliberately lie but may have shared inaccurate information based on the briefing he received.

“Look at this Air Med matter… I don’t think he cooked up that story. I believe it was a brief he was given. I will defend my brother Felix any day that he is not a liar. He did not come to sit there and lie,” the Ofoase-Ayirebi MP asserted.

“It is the information that he was given, and he has put out that information—and that information is not correct,” he added.

Drawing from his own experience as a former Minister of Information, Oppong Nkrumah explained that government communication is a challenging responsibility. He noted that ministers often rely heavily on the accuracy of information provided by technocrats and security officials.

“There is no way the minister could know whether the information he is briefed on is true or false. You are only a government spokesperson, so you will mouth these words and then people will say this guy is a liar,” he explained.

He stressed that if the brief was inaccurate, it should not be blamed solely on the communicator.

“Felix is doing a very difficult job. I wish him well,” he said.

His comments stand in contrast to views expressed by some NPP members, including Assin South MP and Ranking Member on Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, Rev. Ntim Fordjour, who accused Kwakye-Ofosu of spreading deliberate falsehoods regarding the flights under scrutiny.

In response, Kwakye-Ofosu released a video statement dismissing the allegations as baseless, insisting that the flights in question conducted legitimate operations in Ghana and did not transport any illicit drugs or money.
