Political strategist, Professor Kobby Mensah has said the recent research findings by Fitch Solutions predicting a defeat for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the December 7 general elections are not surprising.
According to him, the findings represent the national sentiments.
“If you ask around, everyone is complaining about the state of the nation. The findings confirm what we are seeing on the ground; everyone is criticizing the government on how they are managing the country. So, everyone is firm in their minds that the NPP has lost the elections,” Mr. Mensah noted.
Fitch Solutions, a London-based research and data firm, has consistently forecasted this outcome since last year, with 54 per cent of respondents in a recent survey favouring the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, John Mahama, to win the presidential election.
Associate Director of Country Risk at Fitch Solutions, Mike Kruiniger highlighted that the current economic conditions will significantly influence voter decisions on December 7.
He emphasized that economic management and job creation are the most critical issues for voters, which may disadvantage the NPP given the economic challenges the country has faced in recent years.
Speaking on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem on Friday, Professor Kobby Mensah said performance of the NPP government is worse than the previous government.
He attributed the country’s current economic crisis to mismanagement by the government.
“There are a lot of issues in the country that might not have been affected by global trends that the government did not manage well. If you go through the economic indicators, there is enough evidence that the government is not taking the right decisions, and as a result, we are in this predicament. The government cannot keep deceiving us all the time; now everyone is ready. We have a leadership problem, not a people problem,” he emphasized.
