A 23-year-old fisherman, Joseph Armah, also known as Asaa, has been sentenced to eight years in prison by the Gender-Based Violence Court at the Police Headquarters for defiling a four-year-old girl in the Chorkor area of Accra.
Armah, who was charged with defilement, pleaded guilty to the offense. The court, presided over by Dora Eshun, convicted Armah based on his own plea and imposed the sentence accordingly.
The prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Opoku Aniagyei, informed the court that the complainant is a boxer residing at Lantemaamli-Chorkor, who is also the uncle of the victim. Armah, now a convict, also lived in Chorkor.
According to the prosecution, on November 29, 2024, around 3:00 p.m., Armah saw the victim playing in the area and called her over. He offered her a GHC1 coin, encouraging her to buy biscuits with it. The victim bought and ate the biscuits.
Afterward, Armah took the victim by the hand and led her into his room along the seashore. He placed her on a mattress, removed her pants to her knee level, and sexually assaulted her, the prosecution reported.
Following the incident, Armah traveled to Apam, while the victim returned home. Upon noticing a change in the way her daughter walked, the victim’s mother questioned her, and the child revealed the assault.
The mother immediately called the complainant to inform him of the incident. A report was made to the police at Mamprobi, and a medical form was issued so that the victim could receive medical care.
Armah was later arrested, and a caution statement was taken during the investigation.
