A fierce fire swept through three girls’ dormitories at Labone Senior High School in Accra on Sunday afternoon, causing significant damage to school property.

The fire broke out while students were attending their afternoon prep, affecting three out of six dormitories. One dormitory was completely destroyed, while two others sustained partial damage.

Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded swiftly to contain the blaze and prevent further destruction.

Speaking on the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the GNFS, Ado Alex King Nartey, said they received an alert about the fire and dispatched a team to the scene at exactly 1 p.m.

“When we arrived, we discovered that the girls’ dormitory—specifically the new building—was on fire. Out of the six dormitories on the top floor, three were affected; one was completely destroyed, while the other two sustained partial damage,” he stated.

He noted that the exact cause of the fire remains unknown, but investigations are underway to determine what triggered the blaze.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Displaced students have been temporarily relocated to the school’s assembly hall for shelter.

“By God’s grace, all the students are safe and accounted for,” he added.
