Fire guts wooden structures at Lapaz New Market

-

Several wooden structures have been destroyed as a massive fire swept through the Lapaz New Market area.

The fire, which reportedly started around 7 a.m., reduced structures primarily used for domestic purposes to ashes.

Many residents scrambled to salvage their belongings as the flames grew more intense.

Firefighters arrived promptly and worked tirelessly to contain the blaze, managing to prevent it from spreading to nearby residential dwellings.

The GNFS officer in charge confirmed that cooling and salvaging operations are still underway to ensure no hidden flames reignite and to recover any undamaged property.

Residents of the Lapaz New Market area expressed their relief that the fire did not claim lives but lamented the loss of their belongings and livelihoods.

Authorities have commenced investigations into the cause of the fire, although preliminary assessments suggest it could be linked to an electrical fault or an open flame left unattended.
