Fatima Abubakar sends important message to Eugene Boakye [Listen]

-

Former Minister of Information, Fatimatu Abubakar, has sent a strong message to former Member of Parliament for Subin Constituency, Eugene Boakye, over his utterances against the former Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Mike Oquaye.

Mr Boakye has questioned why Prof Ocquaye was leading the New Patriotic Party’s(NPP) election review committee.

According to him, many within the party feel he [Prof Ocquaye] is part of the problem and should not be tasked with finding the solution.

But speaking in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Fatimatu pleaded with all party faithful, leaders, and elders to avoid washing their dirty linen in public.

Fatimatu Abubakar insisted that there are proper forums for addressing such concerns.

“I know Mr. Boakye wants the best for the party, but running from one radio station to another is not the right forum. We have not said no one should complain, but it is better to do so behind closed doors rather than in public,” she stated.

She further advised party members to use the right channels to voice their concerns.

“There is a clear difference between leaders and followers. As a leader, it’s better to keep mute and use the appropriate forum. I also have so many things to say about the defeat, but I have chosen to use the right channels,” she said.

Reflecting on the elections, she noted that despite her best efforts, it may not have been enough.

“We could have done a lot of things differently. I gave it my all, but sometimes your all may not be enough.”

Fatimatu reassured party members that everyone will have the opportunity to voice their opinions through the established committee.

“Given the opportunity, everyone will be allowed to speak. There is a committee in place to lead the review of our defeat. Leaders should cease fire and use the appropriate channels to ensure our party remains united,” she stated.

She concluded by warning that continued public outbursts could have serious repercussions for the party.

“If we continue like this, the impact might be worse, and by the time we realize, it will be too late.”

The committee, which has been given three months to complete its work, is expected to review the party’s internal elections, campaign strategies, and identify challenges that led to the electoral defeat.

The party’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, said the committee’s terms of reference also include proposing solutions for the way forward.
