The incident occurred on Monday at Awudikrom, a suburb of Fomena in the Adansi North District of the Ashanti Region.
Awudi and his wife, Abena Kakra, are said to have been quarreling for almost six months on a daily basis because Abena had on several occasions prevented him from having sex with her.
According to the Assembly Member for the area, Mr. Kwaakye Marfo, the quarrels reached threatening levels causing some neighbours to intervene.
He said a decision was taken to let the woman pass the night at a different place away from their matrimonial home.

Mr Marfo said when the woman returned to the house around 4:30 am on Monday, the husband picked up a quarrel with her and in the process used the cutlass he used in farming to butcher her in the presence of their four children.
He said the eldest of their children raised an alarm and when neighbours got to the scene they found the motionless body of Abena.
He said the neighbours then went on a manhunt for Awudi; only to find him hanging on a tree in a nearby forest.
Mr Marfo said the police were called in and the bodies of the couple have been deposited at the New Edubiase District Hospital.
