Family members including four kids killed in horror crash

Police are investigating a multiple pile-up that led to seven family members including four kids dying in a six-vehicle smash in Las Vegas.

Nine people have died and another is fighting for their lives in hospital after the crash at around 3 pm last Saturday between Commerce and Cheyenne.

Police spokesman Alexander Cuevas said a Dodge Challenger was speeding at more than 100mph when it jumped a red light and caused the horror crash, reported news3lv.com.

He said: “Never before had we seen a traffic accident like this, with so many victims,” reported univision.com.

Emergency services rushed to the scene with five people initially pronounced dead from the six cars involved in the crash before the numbers grew as the full extent of the tragedy unfolded.

The driver of the Dodge, Gary Dean Robinson, 59, was among the dead as was a passenger, while 15 people in total were involved in the crash, it is reported.

There were seven people including four children who died in the incident from the same family: Fernando Yeshua Mejia, 5; Adrian Zacarias, 10; Lluvia Daylenn Zacarias, 13; Bryan Axel Zacarias, 15; Gabriel Mejia-Barrera, 23; David Mejia-Barrera, 25; and Jose Zacarias-Caldera, 35.

Erlinda Zacarias, who lost six children and a brother, has set up a fundraiser to help pay for the funerals of her family and so far has raised $176,921.

She told Despierta America: “I rang and rang, and went to the place (of the accident) where I was told to wait.

“Later they came and told me the news that they were all dead and for me, it was the end of the world. All my children, this is too much, we have been left with nothing, alone.

“They were all students, all good children, we are now destroyed by this tragedy.”

She wrote on a fundraiser page: “On January 29 at 3 pm there was an accident on the intersection of Cheyenne and Commerce in north Las Vegas speeding was a factor there were 6 cars involved out of those 6 cars 9 people lost their lives [sic].

“I lost all my family my kids 7 out of those lives were lost. There are no words to describe my pain and suffering that I will not be able to hug my children again, my brother and 2 step sons lost their lives also.

“I and my husband are in so much pain we are asking you for help with our hearts in our hands anything would be helpful thank you.”
