‘Fake soldier’ in viral recruitment video arrested

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has apprehended Alex Cobbinah, a young man who impersonated a soldier in a viral video where he falsely alleged that President-elect John Dramani Mahama planned to dismiss all protocol-recruited soldiers.

In the video, Cobbinah wore a Ghana Navy vest and displayed military items while delivering what GAF has described as misleading and deceptive statements.

Further investigations revealed that Cobbinah had posted several videos on social media, where he donned military attire and posed as a soldier.

The Military Police arrested Cobbinah at his residence in Madina Zongo Junction, Accra.

He has since been handed over to the Ghana Police Service for further investigation and potential prosecution.

In an official statement, GAF cautioned the public against engaging with intermediaries or agents who demand payment in exchange for enlistment into the Armed Forces.

They urged anyone aware of such fraudulent activities to report them to the nearest military installation or police station, emphasizing that paying such agents constitutes complicity in fraud.

GAF also reminded the public that unauthorized use of military uniforms or equipment is a criminal offense under the National Liberation Council Decree (NLCD) 177 of 1967. They warned citizens to refrain from such violations to avoid prosecution.
