The National Youth Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Goerge Opare Addo has shared an image allegedly showing Ghana’s Second Lady, Samira Bawumia, holding the NDC’s iconic umbrella symbol.

The claim, posted on his X page, stated, “Somebody should kindly tell Bawumia that even his wife Samira feels safe under the umbrella #TheUmbrellaChallenge.”

Mr. Opare’s post has since garnered over 40,000 views and more than 600 likes.

The Umbrella Challenge, a campaign driven by the NDC, encourages supporters to share images and videos of themselves with the party’s umbrella symbol, suggesting that those under the NDC’s emblem are “safe,” a metaphor for the party’s role in fostering economic growth, development, and stability.

With image manipulation expected to surge as the elections approach, it’s crucial to verify the authenticity of such claims.

Verification

DUBAWA conducted a Google reverse image search, which revealed the original source of the shared image. The search led to Samira Bawumia’s official Instagram account, where the image was first posted.

According to the post, the photo was taken during the “Change Now” Summit, an annual conference held in Paris, France on March 28, 2024.
