Three persons are said to have been arrested following police preliminary investigations in to the Central Medical Stores fire.
The three were arrested three years after the incident which destroyed drugs and medical supplies at the facility worth GH$564 million.
The incident, which occurred in 2015, caused the country to lose about $ 80 million worth of medicines and medical supplies.
In 2016, 12 officials of the Ghana Health Service who were accused of playing various roles in the arson were also interdicted, but the status of the case is not yet known.
Before the fire, there were reports that then Health Minister Dr. Kwaku Agyeman-Mensah, had initiated investigations into allegations of corrupt practices at the store.
But no one has been prosecuted or held liable despite suspicion of arson.
Speaking on the anti-corruption segment of Adom FM’s morning show, ‘Dwaso Nsem’ show host, Captain Smart revealed that the prime suspect, Samuel Dogbe, a labourer at CMS is still at large but the police and other anti-corruption bodies are working assiduously to bring other culprits to book.
He indicated that, investigative report on the issue showed that administrative and operational lapses have been identified as part of the causes of the theft and massive fraud at the Central Medical Stores (CMS).
The following officers of CMS were found culpable for the various lapses in fire prevention measures at the CMS: Gifty Esi Mankartha – Principal Pharmacist/Warehouse Manager, Samuelson Tetteh – Head of Security and Harry Okwampah – Line Manager in charge of Information and Communication Technology.
Government has therefore directed the Minister of Health to take appropriate disciplinary
action against them.
Captain Smart commended the security agencies for a good job done but appealed to government to expedite action to prosecute those involved to serve as a deterrent to others.
