Health workers across the country have expressed grief over government’s failure to deliver on the relief packages promised them in their fight against Covid-19.

President Akufo-Addo, in his fifth televised address to the nation on measures adopted in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, announced tax exemptions, 50 percent increment in the basic salaries of health workers.

The package also includes free transportation, a daily allowance of GHS 150 and an insurance package of GHS 30,000 for personnel that lose their lives in the line of duty.

But, according to some health workers who spoke on Fabewoso on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Monday, they are yet to enjoy the relief packages promised by government.

A Contact Tracer whose name has been withheld asserted that the daily allowance due them for the entire month of May haven’t been paid and are yet to receive for the first half of June.

Another health worker, a laboratory technician at the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research who also spoke on condition of anonymity corroborated the assertion, saying they had not received a dime from the GHS 150 daily allowance due them.

According to the contact tracer who spoke on the show, efforts made to discuss their grievances to the authorities for the release of the daily GHS 150 allowance and the other relief packages have proved futile.

The lack of will on the part of government to make payments of their daily allowance he said, informed their decision to stay home and discontinue their contact tracing activities since the beginning of June 2020.
