The woes of the Director General of the Ghana Maritime Authority, Kwame Owusu, is far from over as it has emerged that he has allegedly used over GH₵ 66 thousand for kitchen cabinet.
This was after he defended the renovation of his “colonial style” 2-bedroom Cantonments residence at the cost of GH₵1 million, despite concerns the amount was too high.

Mr Owusu has justified the expenses, saying the former wooden residence now has “four bedrooms on the main structure, a living room, a dining room, kitchen, a family room, a library and a basement.”
A memo signed by an employee of the Maritime Authority, Rhoda Atiah, revealed that GH₵ 66,835.00 was used to construct high-quality hardwood standard kitchen cabinet complete with drawers, Corian worktop and wall hanging unit including all necessary accessories.

It has also emerged on Adom FM’s anti-corruption segment, Fabewoso, that the Maritime boss also used GH₵24,650.00 to pay for 11 air conditioners for the newly renovated official residences of the Director-General.
In a rebuttal, however, Mr Owusu said he feels the upgraded residence is still relatively modest, compared to what is occupied by Director Generals of other state agencies.
