Chairman of the National Circles Council of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Kwaku Amponsah has said that the MTA FA Cup trophy saved an otherwise abysmal season for the club.
Asante Kotoko beat their bitterest rivals, Hearts of oak 3-1 last Sunday at the Tamale Sports Stadium to lift the FA Cup. This the supporters’ leader say does not define the season for the club.
Chairman Amponsah speaking on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show said Asante Kotoko’s performance this season was abysmal and does not befit a ‘big club like Asante Kotoko’.
“Asante Kotoko is a very big club and our performance this season does not befit the club. We won over Hearts of Oak to win the FA Cup but our overall performance was very bad this season.
“A lot of people are silent because we scored our arch rivals and also at the end of the season we have a trophy,” he said.
Asante Kotoko finished fifth in the 2016/2017 Premier League season.
