The Ghana Education Service (GES) has called on the police to expedite investigations and apprehend those responsible for the fire that destroyed the library of the Kwashieman Cluster of Schools.
The library, which had also been used to store ballot boxes from the Ablekuma North constituency parliamentary election, was engulfed in flames on Tuesday, December 17.
The Director-General of GES, Dr. Eric Nkansah, expressed deep concern over the incident, emphasizing that the perpetrators would face the full force of the law.
“This is an unfortunate event and one of the saddest moments in my tenure as Director-General of the Ghana Education Service.
“The school recently received a state-of-the-art library project, among the best in basic schools nationwide. Additionally, it benefited from recent support from the ministry. The last thing anyone would expect is the devastation we now face,” he stated.
Dr Nkansah noted that, the fire has disrupted learning and displaced numerous pupils.
However, he assured the public that the GES has activated its education and emergency contingency plan to minimize the impact, with measures being implemented at both the district and regional levels.
