Ex-Black Stars assistant coach dismisses calls for Otto Addo’s sack

Black Galaxies coach, Mas-Ud Didi Dramani, has refuted calls for the dismissal of Otto Addo, despite the Black Stars’ failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The 47-year-old coach has come under scrutiny after the Black Stars failed to secure a win in their qualifiers, finishing last in Group F with just three points. This has led to growing demands for Addo and his technical team to be let go.

However, Dramani, who previously served as an assistant coach for the Black Stars, argues that firing coaches is not always the best solution.

In an interview with Ghanasportspage.com, he emphasized the importance of patience and a structured plan to rebuild the team.

“Sacking coaches is never the best solution, even though it’s a common practice in football,” the former Black Stars assistant coach said.

“Sometimes, coaches are sacrificed to shield the image of the team, but often, it’s the players who didn’t meet expectations, and that’s not the coach’s fault.”

Dramani further stressed the need to focus on long-term progress rather than seeking immediate results.

“Results matter, but sometimes progress is not immediately visible. Bringing in a new coach isn’t the solution. We need to be deliberate and consistent in our direction. Even if you lose matches but see signs of progress, patience is essential.

“Rebuilding is a progressive approach where you win some, lose some, and draw some,” Dramani explained.

He also cautioned against making rash decisions that could hinder the team’s development.

“If we keep sacking coaches without focusing on a clear direction, we will lose our way. It’s about trusting the process and addressing challenges head-on rather than making reactionary changes.”

The fate of Otto Addo is set to be determined on November 27, following the team’s failure to secure a place in the upcoming AFCON.
