Ex-Black Starlets coach Laryea Kingston lands top coaching job in USA

Former Black Starlets coach Laryea Kingston has secured a new coaching position at RPS Academies in the United States.

Kingston, a former Ghana international with a UEFA License B coaching certificate, will now focus on grooming future football stars at the multi-sport academies based in Saint Lucie, Florida.

He will be working alongside a team of coaches, bringing his wealth of experience to nurture young talents.

In an interview with Graphic Sports, Kingston expressed his excitement about the new role, despite his disappointment over leaving the Black Starlets during the U-17 WAFU B Championship in Accra.

“I had other coaching offers, but this opportunity was the best fit for me,” he said.

Kingston revealed that RPS Academies had been monitoring his coaching journey for some time before offering him the role.

Confident in his new position, Kingston highlighted his familiarity with the Right to Dream model, which focuses on combining education with sports performance.

“I feel right at home in an environment that merges sports and academics, but with even greater responsibilities this time,” he added.

Kingston also emphasized the importance of expanding the academy’s talent pool, especially by scouting in Africa.

“We have some US-based African players here, but we need to widen our search. I plan to give them a scout in Africa, just like we did at Right to Dream, particularly in West Africa,” he said.

Kingston, who signed a five-year contract with RPS Academies, is set to start his new role on September 1.

His past coaching experience includes working with Right to Dream Academy and coaching the under-18 side of Danish club Nordsjaelland.

RPS Academies offers a variety of sports, including football, tennis, golf, volleyball, and pickleball, while also placing a strong emphasis on academics.
