Evil persons are behind Black Stars’ lack of trophies – Asamoah Gyan

-

Former Black Stars striker Asamoah Gyan has blamed “evil individuals” as the reason behind Ghana’s failure to win major trophies in recent years.

Despite reaching the finals of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) three times—1992, 2010, and 2015—the Black Stars have not clinched a continental title since their last victory in 1982.

During an Instagram Live session on January 2, 2025, Gyan, Ghana’s all-time top scorer, voiced his frustrations about the national team’s struggles, sharing his thoughts on why the team has been unable to secure silverware.

“There are evil people in this country; That’s why we can’t win anything because of these people,” Gyan, who is the country’s all-time leading goal scorer said.

“They have tarnished Ghana’s reputation with dirt,’’ he added.

The 2006, 2010, and 2014 World Cup participant also expressed his discontent with the persistent challenges facing the national team.

In a further blow to the Black Stars, Ghana, a four-time AFCON champion, will miss the 2025 AFCON tournament in Morocco, marking the first time in 20 years that the team has failed to qualify.
