Epixode’s road manager Emmanuel Addo supports call for Ghanaian music documentation

Emmanuel Addo, road manager for Ghanaian reggae-dancehall artist Epixode, has backed Epixode’s call to market Ghanaian music to the diaspora through proper documentation.

Epixode emphasized the need for Ghanaian artists to archive their unique sounds, preserving the contributions of veterans, current artists, and emerging talents. He believes this will strengthen Ghana’s musical influence globally, a point he raised during an interview on Joy Prime’s Prime Morning with Roselyn Felli.

“Documenting music is essential for cultural preservation, ensuring that future generations understand, appreciate, and build upon Ghana’s rich musical heritage. Proper archiving of highlife, hiplife, reggae, and other indigenous sounds will help maintain Ghana’s identity in the evolving music industry. Additionally, global music platforms thrive on history, and having well-documented Ghanaian music will increase visibility, international collaborations, and opportunities for local artists,” Addo stated.

He cited examples of Jamaica’s successful promotion of reggae and Nigeria’s global push for Afrobeats, noting that Ghana can achieve similar success by creating music archives, digitizing past works, and sharing the stories behind its diverse sounds.

Emmanuel Addo further confirmed that before the end of 2023, Epixode will release an all-highlife EP to celebrate Ghana’s timeless rhythms and authentic musical identity.
