Elmina Sharks midfielder Jay Asamoah Kola has been handed a one-year suspension by the Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for attacking a match official.
Kola’s suspension follows an incident during a Division One League match against Swedru All Blacks, where he assaulted center referee Eso Doh Morrison.
A viral video circulating on social media captured the player attempting to strike the referee with a stone.
The GFA has issued a stern warning, stating that any further misconduct from Kola will result in even harsher penalties.
In addition to Kola’s suspension, five club officials—George Wiredu, Seth Armstrong, Kelvin Aboagye, Joshua Kyibazah, and Kingsley Arther—have also been banned for the remainder of the season.
They have been fined GHS 10,000 for storming the pitch to confront match officials during the same game.
