Electrochem to set up GH₵10 million interest-free loan scheme for women

-

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Electrochem Ghana Limited, mine, Abdul Razak Adam has said they are committed to focusing on poverty alleviation, women empowerment and environmental protection to keep people alive.

Mr Adam has said they have put in place measures to resource women by establishing a GH₵10 million interest-free loan scheme.

In an interview with Adom News, he explained the scheme will target both women within and outside the salt mining business.

This decision is in fulfillment of a promise Electrochem made when they appeared before a joint committee of Parliament set up to resolve the battle between the company, the traditional and community leaders of Ada over the salt mine in the Songhor Lagoon.

There had been years of dispute between the parties, following the leasing of the entire 41,000 acres of the Songhor Lagoon to Electrochem Ghana Limited (ELG), owned by Daniel McKorley.

The Committee as part of its resolution among other things directed ElectroChem Ghana Limited should enlarge their social intervention activities as their fortunes improve to bankroll poverty in the communities.
