Election 2024: Okoe-Boye set for victory in Ledzokuku [Audio]

-

Former Member of Parliament for Ledzokuku constituency, Dr Bernard Okoe Boye has expressed confidence that, he will reclaim the seat in the upcoming December 7 election.

Dr Okoe Boye who is the Minister for Health and New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate lost the 2020 election to National Democratic Congress’ (NDC), Benjamin Ayiku Narteh.

Dr Okoe-Boye polled 54,072 votes while Mr Narteh secured 55,938 of the total votes cast.

However, the incumbent MP according to him has not performed up to the expectations of constituents who are now calling for change.

In an interview on Adom FMs morning show Dwaso Nsem Thursday, he said the constituents have tried and tested him and Mr Narteh and are convinced the time has come for change.

“The people can testify that they have been let down and are disappointed. They have weighed the two of us and they believe Okoe Boye stands tall so the constituents are actively rooting for me. Teshie needs someone who is active and can lobby for projects so it is my prayer that God himself who makes king will make me victorious,” he said.

In a related development, the Minister revealed his defeat in 2020 didn’t come to him as a surprise.

Dr Okoe Boye admitted he knew it will be very difficult to retain a seat that is traditionally the stronghold of the NDC but was grateful for the votes he garnered.

“In 2016, Mahama had 45,000 votes while Akufo-Addo had 43,000. In the parliamentary election, I had 45,000 but the NDC candidate, Benita had 43,000 which means close to 3,000 voted for me.

“In 2020, Mahama polled 59,000 and Akufo-Addo obtained 50,950. So for a presidential candidate to win by over 9,000 that should tell you it is an NDC constituency. The NDC man won because of his party not his work or speech but now, most of the people are calling on me,” he said.

Dr Okoe Boye lamented his successor failed to continue projects he inherited , citing roads in the constituency.

But he has been committed to the development of the area with a stadium currently under construction at Teshie Aboma and will be completely with 90 days.

“We started a harbour and it was left with a fridge but the MP has done nothing about it. It is my plan to get it running with six months when I’m elected on December 7,” he pledged.
