The Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP) has introduced Dr. Daniel Augustus Lartey Junior as its flagbearer for the upcoming December 7 elections.
Dr. Lartey was officially endorsed, along with other national party executives, during a congress held in Accra at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel.
This central congress brought together delegates from all 16 regions of Ghana.
The members unanimously acclaimed Dr. Daniel Augustus Lartey as the party’s flagbearer, a decision that was later confirmed by the Director of Elections at the Electoral Commission.
Additionally, Dr. Lartey Junior’s elder brother, Henry Lartey, the former flagbearer, was acclaimed as the party’s Chairman alongside other national executives.
Dr. Lartey, in his address, promised to enhance the party’s domestication policies if elected into office, with a particular focus on technology-driven agriculture.
He emphasized the importance of revitalizing agriculture, which he noted was once the backbone of Ghana’s economy.
The GCPP flagbearer pledged to provide farmers with the necessary tools to ensure that citizens can grow and sell what they produce from their land.
Citizen Ato Dadzie, the General Secretary of GCPP, voiced his disappointment with the government’s failure to effectively tackle illegal mining and the resultant destruction of forest reserves and water bodies.
He stated that, a GCPP-led government would have the solution to the environmental degradation caused by illegal mining, pointing out that the current fight against “galamsey” (illegal mining) has been politicized, hindering any meaningful progress.
