In Okaikwei South, as the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections approach, a fierce battle is unfolding between the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over developments in the constituency and who deserves the vote for Member of Parliament (MP).
On Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen Constituency Watch, residents shared their views, with some firmly supporting Dakoa Newman, the current NPP MP for Okaikwei South, while others are backing Ernest Adomako, the NDC parliamentary candidate.
Both sides have their reasons for why they believe their candidate is the best choice for the constituency.
Supporters of Ernest Adomako argued that, despite not elected as MP yet, he has already made significant strides in the constituency.
They praised his contributions and believe that, if given the opportunity, he will achieve even more for the people of Okaikwei South.
One voter said, “Ernest has already done so much for the constituency, even without being an MP. If he becomes our MP, there is no doubt he will achieve much more.”
These supporters also addressed claims made by the NPP that Dakoa Newman lobbied for the creation of a sick bay, describing them as false.
“The NPP keeps saying things about our candidate, but we know they are just lies. We’ve seen what Ernest has done, and we are confident he will deliver,” said one of the residents.
In contrast, NDC supporters have been critical of the current MP, Dakoa Newman, claiming that she has not delivered significant development for the constituency.
They point to the NDC’s achievements, particularly the establishment of two Millennium Schools in the area.
Also, they have criticized Dakoa Newman’s leadership, saying, “Dakoa is not a leader. We want to retire her and bring in someone who is truly ready to work for the people.”
On the other side, NPP supporters defended Dakoa Newman, touting her contributions to the constituency.
They pointed to the various projects she has initiated in every electoral area, which they believe prove her dedication to the people. One NPP member said,
“When Dakoa first came, we weren’t sure she could deliver, but she has done unprecedented things for the constituency. She has proven us wrong, and for that, we will vote for her.”
Another NPP supporter added, “Dakoa has done so much for all electoral areas. That’s why we’re going to vote for her again.”
As the December election draws near, Okaikwei South remains divided between these two passionate camps.
One side believes Ernest Adomako will bring even more development, while the other side backed Dakoa Newman to continue the work she has already done in the constituency.
The contest is shaping up to be more than just a battle for votes—it’s a battle for the future of the constituency, with both parties presenting compelling arguments for their candidates.
