The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Sekondi Constituency has urged Ghanaians to disregard the ‘No vote’ position of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) on the December referendum.
To Mr Andrew Egyapa Mercer, the NDC has been a part of the referendum conversation and process since day one and cannot fathom their sudden U-turn on the matter.
However, the Communication Officer of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi, speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show on Monday said only a fool doesn’t change his mind, stressing that even if the NDC in the past advocated for a ‘Yes’ vote, it has realised it is an affront to democracy.

Speaking on Adom TV’s Badwam show, Mr Mercer urged the NDC to be more interested in the spirit of consensus building on matters regarding the referendum.
“The December referendum is not about NPP or NDC but what is good for Ghana which is to help political parties mobilise support for Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives and participation at the local level,” he said.

Mr Mercer added that the incumbent NPP will still extend a hand of consensus building to the NDC to reconsider its stance on the referendum.
