Some supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Effutu constituency of the Central Region have apologized for the protest they staged last week, which led to damage of party assets.
The protest was driven by the perceived exclusion of their 2020 and 2024 parliamentary candidate, James Kofi Annan, from government appointments.
At a press conference held on Monday, January 27, the group’s spokesperson, Musa Moro, explained that their actions were fueled by frustration, particularly after learning about the appointment of the CEO of the Gaming Commission, whom they believed had ties to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The supporters expressed dismay that the Gaming Commissioner was appointed ahead of James Kofi Annan, who had supported the NDC financially and endured significant hardship, including having his businesses targeted.
The group apologized to President John Mahama, the NDC party, their parliamentary candidate James Kofi Annan, and the Effutu constituency executives, whose meeting they had disrupted during the protest. They also urged the constituency executives to appeal to Dr. James Kofi Annan, who had condemned their actions.
The supporters pledged to repair the damage caused during the demonstration and expressed their readiness to accept any disciplinary measures the party might impose.
