The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has dismissed allegations circulating on social media, accusing some field workers and offices in the Nkawkaw Municipality of engaging in fraudulent activities and political sabotage.
The claims, attributed to an individual identified as “Campaigner Generale,” alleged that scammers posing as ECG staff were issuing fake bills with exorbitant charges to both prepaid and postpaid customers.
The scammers reportedly threatened to disconnect power supply if payments were not made immediately.
The allegations further suggested that these activities were part of a deliberate effort to undermine the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government and its leadership in the Nkawkaw constituency.
However, ECG categorically denied these claims, labeling them as false and baseless in a statement.
“ECG does not, and will not, directly or indirectly collaborate with ‘scammers’ to defraud our cherished customers or sabotage any political party and its leadership,” the statement emphasized.
The company clarified that the ongoing operations in the Nkawkaw District are part of a Loss Reduction Project (LRP) aimed at minimizing commercial losses and enhancing service delivery. This includes replacing faulty meters with modern MMS-compliant ones through partner companies.
Additionally, ECG noted that its teams are conducting revenue mobilization exercises, which are always preceded by public announcements to affected communities.
ECG strongly refuted any connection between its legitimate activities and the alleged political schemes, describing the accusations as unfounded.
“As a customer-focused organization and a responsible member of society, ECG disassociates itself from any fraudulent activity of any sort,” the statement added.
The company reassured customers and the public of its commitment to delivering reliable and improved services, urging them to disregard the circulating allegations.
