EC publishes ballot statistics for 2024 election

-

The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has release ballot statistics to guide the printing process for the upcoming Presidential and Parliamentary elections.

This announcement was made in a press release issued on Monday, October 14, and signed by Deputy EC Chairperson, Samuel Tettey.

This move is aimed at ensuring a smooth and efficient electoral process by making these essential statistics available ahead of the elections.

The Commission explained that, it based its calculations on the total number of voters on the Provisional Voter’s Register (PVR), with an additional two per cent buffer.

This measure is intended to guarantee an adequate supply of ballots for all eligible voters, accounting for potential increases in voter registration and turnout.

The EC emphasized that this proactive approach is designed to prevent ballot shortages or discrepancies on election day.

While encouraging full voter participation, the Commission also acknowledged that not all registered voters may ultimately cast their ballots.

“While the Commission welcomes and encourages a total voter turnout on Election Day, it also recognizes that not every registered voter will vote in the 2024 General Election. The Commission is confident that the methodology relied upon, that is utilizing the total number of voters on the PVR plus a two percent increase to guide the printing of ballots, is adequate and will not result in shortfalls or unnecessary wastage. This methodology of adding a percentage increase has been used by the Commission to guide the printing of ballots since 1992.We entreat the Public to trust us to deliver on our mandate” the statement added.
