EC officially declares NDC’s Faustina Akurugu as Dome-Kwabenya MP-elect

The Electoral Commission(EC) has reaffirmed the National Democratic Congress(NDC) Parliamentary Candidate, Faustina Elikplim Akurugu as the MP-elect for the Dome-Kwabenya constituency. 

The official declaration was made on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, after weeks of dispute of the results following the election on December 7.

She garnered 50,967 votes, narrowly surpassing the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate, Mike Oquaye Jnr, who received 50,669 votes.

In a brief address before the declaration, the EC Chairperson, Jean Mensa noted the outcome reflects the will of the people in Dome-Kwabenya and the Commission will uphold that.

She noted that, there are lessons to be learnt from the election, emphasising that political parties must allow the system to work.
