EC official arrested in Kintampo South

An Electoral Commission (EC) official in the Kintampo South constituency of the Bono East Region has been arrested for allegedly issuing defective ballot papers in the ongoing elections.

The suspect has been identified as Dery Joseph.

Mr Dery is currently under investigation for issuing 15 ballot papers at the Ampesika-Bayere polling station that allegedly omitted the name of the first candidate, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

The Ghana Police Service confirmed the arrest in a statement and assured of ongoing investigations to ascertain the motive behind the act.

“We are committed to ensuring a free, fair, and transparent election process and will address any instances of malpractice swiftly,” the statement added.
