EC lifts media restrictions on access to collation centres on December 7

-

The Electoral Commission (EC) has reversed its earlier decision restricting media access to constituency and regional collation centres, allowing media personnel greater access during the electoral process.

In a statement released on Monday, December 2, the EC announced that after internal discussions and consultations with key media stakeholders, it had decided to permit media professionals with EC-issued photo accreditation for polling stations to use the same credentials to access collation centres.

“From Saturday, 7th December 2024, media persons can access Constituency and Regional Collation Centres using their photo accreditation cards issued by the EC,” the statement confirmed.

The EC reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and accountability, highlighting that the updated accreditation system aims to ensure better access and flexibility for media practitioners throughout the elections.

The decision has been widely welcomed by media professionals, who view it as a positive step toward promoting openness and fostering confidence in the electoral process.
