EC denies claims about voters’ register in viral white truck video

-

The Electoral Commission (EC) has refuted claims in a social media video alleging that a supposed Voters Register for Ahafo Ano 1 and 2 was being transported in a white pick-up truck alongside other registers.

In a statement, the EC clarified that the register shown in the video does not belong to the Commission. It explained that its official voters’ registers are printed in black and white, unlike the coloured version displayed in the footage.

The Commission emphasized that, as part of standard practice, final voters’ registers are shared with political parties, who may print their own copies for use by polling agents.

“It is instructive to note that the truck in the video does not belong to the Commission,” the EC stated.

The EC also disassociated itself from the white pick-up truck seen in the video, confirming that the vehicle is not part of its fleet.

Urging the public to disregard the video, the Commission described it as a deliberate attempt to sow mistrust in the electoral process.

To resolve the matter, the EC called on the Ghana Police Service to launch an investigation. “The registration number of the pick-up truck, which is visible in the video, should be able to assist the Police in their investigations,” the statement added.
