Seasoned journalist, Kweku Baako says EC Chairperson Charlotte Osei is not enthused by the “needless noise-making” by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) members trying to defend her.
According to him, the EC Boss respects the due process that she has to go through regarding the impeachment petition against her and her two deputies; Amadu Sulley and Georgina Amankwa.
Kweku Baako said that Mrs. Charlotte Osei will not fall for the “propaganda scare-mongering” and “ugly threats of street militancy” by the NDC under their guise to defend her.
He said in this on Peace FM’s ‘Kokrokoo’ programme in response to claims by some NDC members that the NPP government is scheming to impeach Charlotte Osei to perhaps replace her with an NPP loyalist.
National Vice Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Samuel Ofosu Ampofo sent a strong warning to President Nana Akufo-Addo not to orchestrate a plot to remove the EC Boss, Charlotte Osei from office.
Mr. Ofosu Ampofo expressed suspicions of President Akufo-Addo and his government’s attempt to manipulate the probe into the corruption and abuse of power allegations against Mrs. Charlotte Osei and her two deputies, Amadu Sulley and Georgina Amankwa.
The Central Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Allotey Jacobs also believed the petition against the EC Boss is a “political conspiracy” by the Akufo-Addo administration to remove her.
But Kweku Baako, speaking to the issue on Wednesday’s edition of the programme, cautioned the NDC to stop their “propaganda scare-mongering, ugly threats of street militancy and some imaginative conspiracy theories. Charlotte Osei can do without those things. Indeed the other two Commissioners can also do without those things because the context is due process.”
To him, the EC Chair is “focused on the due process, that’s why she’s raising issues with what she perceives as challenges on the due process. Have you heard her on TV and radio complaining about the due process? Rather she’s writing letters to the appropriate institutions. She’s communicating to those institutions or personalities that have been entrusted with responsibility that this, this, this are the difficulties I’m faced with. That resolution of those difficulties or challenges within the context of due process . . . That’s what a disciplined person does.”
He also warned them saying their “noise doesn’t help it in anyway. Indeed, it distracts. It pollutes . . . At least, I can say that for Charlotte Osei. She does not need what is happening. Indeed, she can do without the contamination – the political contamination – that is being brought to bear on the issue.”
