Eastern Regional Security Council meet over Atiwa killings

-

The Eastern Regional Security Council is meeting over growing concerns by members of the joint police and military taskforce of unfair accusations of assault and murder by residents in some parts of the region.
It comes after the bodies of four people were found dead at Kwabeng in the Atiwa district Sunday August 14, 2017.
Residents have accused the taskforce, Operation Vanguard of being responsible for the deaths of the four- an accusation they have vehemently denied.
Spokesperson of the taskforce, Major Gariba Paddy said they have not been to the town in question and therefore cannot be held responsible.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Monday, Eastern Regional Minister, Eric Kwakye Darfour said the police open investigations in the death.
He indicated that calm has returned to the town and the agitated youth have been asked to wait for the outcome of the investigations.
Mr. Kwakye Darfour also revealed that, preliminary investigation is gradually unravelling the mystery behind the killing of the four miners.
