Easter teaches self-sacrifice beyond religion – Kwesi Pratt Jnr

The Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwasi Pratt Jnr, has underscored the importance of self-sacrifice as the true essence of Easter, describing it as a principle that transcends religious lines and speaks directly to anyone committed to social change.

In a message shared on social media on April 18, 2025, Pratt reflected on the season’s deeper meaning, stressing that beyond its Christian roots, Easter offers a valuable lesson for all who are determined to challenge systems of exploitation and oppression.

“The most important principle or lesson of Easter is self-sacrifice for the general good, and this goes beyond religious sectarianism,” he wrote.

He encouraged those fighting for change, particularly revolutionaries, to recognise the level of commitment their mission demands.

“It is essential for all those pursuing any cause, especially revolutionaries who seek to overthrow the existing order of exploitation, domination, and oppression, to be ready to make the ultimate sacrifice,” he said.

Pratt further noted that success in any revolutionary struggle is not guaranteed by faith alone but rather by scientific validation and unwavering resolve.

“The assurance of victory comes from the validation of our methods and vision by science, and our determination to overcome all obstacles,” he added.

Drawing a parallel between the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and the sacrifices demanded of revolutionary movements, Pratt argued that even those who reject religious beliefs can draw meaningful lessons from the Easter story.

“The crucifixion of Jesus the Christ and the lessons drawn from it are important for the advancement of the world, even for those of us who refuse to embrace superstition,” he said.

He concluded his reflection by affirming, “The slogan ‘Victory or Death’ makes sense within this context.”
