Driver assaulted by police at Kasoa compensated – Brother reveals

-

A brother of the driver, Kwesi Odei, allegedly assaulted by police for jumping red light at McCarthy Hill in Accra has given a different twist to the story.

Benjamin Botchwey on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem programme, Friday claimed his brother lied just to court bad press for the police.

The Kasoa-bound trotro driver jumped red traffic light but unfortunately the policemen manning that intersection had seen him and ordered the driver down.

The refusal of the driver to comply resulted in a heated exchange that required passers-by to intervene.

The driver was also physically abused and was later rushed to the Amanfrom Hospital for medical attention.

Mr Botchwey, who rushed to the hospital when informed about the case, said his brother admitted guilt.

“He told me he jumped red light and the police beat him for not stopping,” he said.

Mr Botchwey, who confronted the police for assaulting his brother, said he managed to get compensation for him.

He revealed the police agreed to pay his medical bills, pay for his cracked windscreen and even paid his daily sales for time wasting.

Mr Botchwey expressed shock at the conduct of the driver who received the compensation and promised not to go to the media.
