Drama, chaos rock Appointment Committee [Video]

The second sitting of the Appointment Committee of Parliament on Monday, January 20, 2025, was marked by disagreements.

Despite the presence of Roads and Highways Minister-designate, Kwame Governs Agbodza, the vetting process was delayed due to exchanges and interjections by the committee members.

The Ranking Member and Effutu MP, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, among others, raised preliminary issues regarding the non-existence of a Cabinet Secretary, which attracted a comment from Bawku Central MP, Mahama Ayariga.

Mr. Ayariga asserted that Mr. Afenyo could use other mediums to air his concerns, stating that they were present to vet ministerial nominees, and that process should proceed.

Minority Chief Whip and Nsawam Adoagyiri MP, Francis Annoh-Dompreh, who was not happy with Mahama Ayariga’s remarks, objected.

However, the Chairman of the Committee and Akatsi South MP, Bernard Ahiafor, sought to prevent Annoh-Dompreh from speaking to save time for the main proceedings.

The Chairman’s directive did not sit well with the Chief Whip, resulting in a heated argument and murmurs among the committee members.
