Elmina Sharks’ owner, Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom, has called on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to take accountability for the recent incidents of hooliganism in the country’s football scene.
The suspension of the country’s premier league followed the tragic death of Asante Kotoko fan, Francis Frimpong (also known as Nana Pooley), who was killed during the Matchday 19 clash against Nsoatreman FC at Nana Kronmansah Park.
In a separate incident, chaos erupted during a Division One League match between Elmina Sharks and Swedru All Blacks, where Sharks’ players and officials attacked referee Eso Doh Morrison after the final whistle.
In an interview with GTV Sports+, Dr. Nduom declined to take responsibility for the actions of his team members.
He expressed frustration at how some people focus on selective video clips, labeling fans in Elmina as hooligans without understanding the full context.
“Some people take certain portions of a video and say the fans in Elmina are hooligans when they don’t understand what happened. Don’t take a clip and say, Shouldn’t someone take responsibility?” he quizzed.
“It is the GFA. They take responsibility. They must make everybody safe. They must make the games entertaining; they must pay the referees appropriately and pay everybody well, not just take FIFA money and go and rest somewhere,” he added.
This week saw the first implementation of the Ghana Football Association’s newly strengthened matchday and security protocols during Division One League matches.
